Day Dream Break (oil on canvas) by Jane Dixon, the River Gallery’s Featured Artist for November 2013.
“BODY LANGUAGE” ART EXHIBIT by Jane Dixon
What does your body language say? Jane Dixon, November’s Featured Artist at the River Art Gallery , has captured this unspoken language on canvas and titled her exhibit, Body Language. Jane observed, “From the time I began to paint, I noticed people’s unique body movements and how these movements expressed more about their emotional state [rather] than any verbal communication. It could be something as simple as the tilt of the head, the slump of the shoulder, or a person’s manner of walking. Strangely, observing people from their back reflects more about their mood than their facial expression.” Many of Jane’s paintings are painted from the ‘back’ view.
Jane stated that her objective is to create paintings which trigger the viewer to ask questions. She chuckled as she mentioned one particular painting and said, “I think it will cause the viewer to laugh and say ‘What is that little boy thinking?’ ” Jane began her journey to become an artist approximately seven years ago, and you can feel her passion for painting as she talks. Jane says “To be perfectly honest, the word ‘artist’ still makes me feel uncomfortable and when someone introduces me and then follows it up by saying, ‘She is an artist’ I look around to see who they are referencing because that can’t be me.” Be assured, anyone viewing her exhibit will know “artist” is the correct word to use when introducing Jane Dixon.
The exhibit Body Language by Jane Dixon will be on display during the month of November at the River Gallery, 308 Trenton Street, West Monroe, Louisiana. Hours 10AM-5PM Tuesday through Saturday. Phone: 318-322-2380 or check out the web site http://www.ouachitariverartgallery.com/home
